They teamed up with Barry Brookman and Dick Clore, local members of the Woodberry Golf Club, to win a 5 team Captain's Choice tournament at Woodberry today. Each team in the tournament consisted of two students and two public members from the Woodberry Golf Club. In cold conditions Bennett and Jack's team shot an 11 under par round of 59.

The Tigers posted a combined score of 168, edging out the Blue Ridge team who shot 171, and easily beating the Eastern Mennonite score of 207. The Tigers battled the elements (cool temps and strong 20+ MPH winds) and the Saints in their 2010 opener and came away victorious, 158-163. Tom Bond spent 30+ years teaching French and Spanish at Woodberry Forest, but his first love was (is) golf. Coach Bond took over the varsity golf team in 1985, and for seventeen years he guided the Tigers to 13 Prep League titles and seven undefeated seasons. Retired since 2001, Coach Bond volunteers his afternoons, continuing to work with the Woodberry golfers.

Nineteen candidates played a second day in the 2010 Varsity golf qualifying tournament (Results in the table below). Everyone shooting 85 or better earned the coveted WFS orange golf bag. Even more importantly, these top 15 finishers earned a waiting exemption for the spring term! The top six will play Friday at Collegiate. The next eight will play Saturday at Mercersburg.

Six golfers joined Coach Hogan at Forest Creek Golf Club for a week of golf in the Sandhills of NC. The team enjoyed the hospitality of Cindy and Chuck Cordell at Forest Creek, and Liz and Chris Dalrymple at CCNC. In addition to these two sites, the Woodberry Forest golfers played two venerable Donald Ross tracks, Pine Needles and Mid-Pines.
